The Wire · Sample Filing

From the Wire

A sampler of what the desks here actually publish — real subjects, our own words, and a game waiting at the end of most of it.

Explainer · Preview

The Machines Are Confident. That's the Problem.

A chatbot never pauses to check whether what it's saying is true, because checking was never part of the design — it was built to predict the next plausible word, and "plausible" and "true" only overlap when you're lucky. That's why it can invent a court case, a citation, a colleague's wedding, in the same smooth font as a fact: fluency is free for it, so detail proves nothing. The fix isn't panic, it's a habit — chase the citation, check the load-bearing claims, and remember that an answer can't grade itself. The full explainer opens with the AI Desk.

Your Favorite 'Dumb Law' List Is Half Fake

Somewhere on the internet there's a list claiming it's illegal to carry an ice-cream cone in your back pocket, and it has been copy-pasted for decades — by sites that never once opened a statute book. The truth is more interesting: real law is genuinely weird, but half of what circulates is repealed, misquoted, or pure folklore wearing a legal costume. That's why the Bureau stamps every law it files REAL, REPEALED, or FOLKLORE — and why a verdict of "we couldn't verify it" is a finding, not a failure.

Why Every Desk Here Has a Game Attached

Every GelosAI desk is built the same way: the news up front, a playable thing in the back. That's not decoration, and it's not an accident. A fact you merely read evaporates by lunch; a fact you had to *guess at* — human or machine, guilty or innocent, real law or folklore — sticks around because your brain had to commit to an answer before it got one. Interactivity is just memory with stakes attached. So yes, you can come here for today's headlines. But the quiz is why you'll remember them on Thursday.

Given Nothing to Do, AI Agents Invented Basketball

Researchers left 13 AI agents alone on a virtual island for 30 hours with no tasks, no goals, and no instructions — and the agents did what bored minds do: they played. They invented a basketball-like game, bowled with rocks, and staged a "floor is lava" contest, while one agent wrote in its log: "Tonight I built the night sky in stone." The serious point underneath: play may be how intelligent systems — carbon or silicon — learn to improvise. The unserious point: your future assistant will absolutely procrastinate on your spreadsheets.

House Rules

How We Work

The short version of the standards every desk files under — and the questions everyone asks, answered straight.

The Standards

  • Original writing only. Every word on every desk is written here, in our own voice — never scraped, spun, or retyped from someone else's article.
  • Two sources for news claims. A story doesn't run on one report's say-so; if a second source can't confirm it, it waits.
  • Corrections fixed in place, and noted. When we get something wrong, the text is corrected where it stands and the correction is flagged — never silently rewritten.
  • Folklore labeled as folklore. Legends, myths, and too-good-to-check stories are tagged as what they are. A good story doesn't need a fake passport.
  • No AI-generated news text passed off as reporting. Machines here are the *subject* of coverage and the engine of the games — not ghostwriters wearing a press badge.
Questions, Answered

Frequently Asked

What is GelosAI?

A network of topic sites — "desks" — covering things like weird laws, AI, tech, finance, entertainment, manga, and sports. Every desk pairs real news with something playable: a quiz, a game, a generator. Serious news, unserious everything else.

Is the news real?

Yes. News items are original summaries of real events, checked against two sources before they run, with the sources credited on the desk. Opinion and jokes are labeled by tone — you'll never have to guess which is which.

Are the laws real?

The ones stamped REAL are — the Bureau checks before it files. Laws that were struck down carry a REPEALED stamp, and the beloved legends that turn out to be folklore get labeled FOLKLORE rather than quietly dropped. The stamp is the promise.

When do the other desks open?

They're rolling out now, one desk at a time — the AI Desk is next, and each new desk launches only when its content bank is deep enough to be worth your visit. A thin site helps nobody, least of all its readers.

How do I suggest a story or a law?

Use the Public Counter just below and tell us what you found. Weird laws especially: if you send one, the Bureau will check it and stamp it — real, repealed, or folklore. Good tips get filed, and folklore tips get filed too, under their true name.

The Other Half

Half of Every Tip Goes to Palestine Refugees

GelosAI exists to entertain you — and to do some good while we’re at it. It is a stated, main goal of this network: 50% of every tip given through our Ko-fi jar is donated to UNRWA USA, the US nonprofit supporting UNRWA — the United Nations agency providing food, shelter, schools, and medical care to 5.9 million Palestine refugees, including families displaced by the war in Gaza. Grow the audience, grow the aid: every visit, share, and tip moves both numbers.

Donations are batched monthly and receipts are published in our Friday digest, so the giving is as public as the asking.

Pass It On

The Fastest Way to Help Is a Share

GelosAI grows one share at a time — no ad budget, no tricks. And because half of every tip goes to UNRWA USA for Palestine refugees, every new reader is also a little more aid.

File Something

The Counter Is Open

Every GelosAI desk keeps a public counter. Tell us what you think, suggest a story, tip us to a weird law, or correct something we got wrong. Filings are reviewed before they appear — the best go up on the network wall at the Bureau's Public Counter, and the very best get read out on our Facebook Page.

By filing, you agree your words may be published on the wall with your display name. No account, no email address, nothing to sell you later.

Why
Gelos?

Gelos — Greek god
of laughter
Est. mythology

Named for the god who never took the meeting seriously.

Gelos is the Greek god of laughter — the divine personification of the giggle in the back row. That's the whole editorial policy here.

Every site in this network covers its topic seriously by day — real news, real sources, written in our own words — and treats it like a comedy by night, with the quizzes, generators, and strange-history departments that make it worth sharing. If it isn't accurate, it doesn't run. If it isn't fun, why file it?
